Released in 1967 & directed by Gene Saks, Barefoot in the Park stars Robert Redford (Butch Cassidy & the Sundance Kid , Three Days of the Condor, Electric Horseman), Jane Fonda (The China Syndrome, Barbarella, Klute, Electric Horseman), Charles Boyer, Mildred Natwick, & Mabel Albertson (Darrin’s mother on Bewitched). Additionally, Doris Roberts (Remington Steele, Everybody Loves Raymond) has a small, uncredited part as a hotel housekeeper.

The film is based on the 1963 stage play written by Neil Simon. Barefoot in the Park ran on Broadway from 1963 to 1967 for 1530 performances. It was Simon’s biggest hit & the 10th-longest running, nonmusical in Broadway history.

All scenes in the stage play take place in the Bratter apartment. However, the film version of Barefoot in the Park has scenes in the stairway, the street in front of the apartment building, the Plaza Hotel, the Velasco apartment, the Four Winds Albanian restaurant, Paul’s office (briefly), & Washington Square Park. Thus, while in the stage version Paul & Corie merely discuss walking barefoot in the park, in the film the audience witnesses Paul actually doing it (because it was a little bit harder to watch what you did than it was for you to do what I was watching).

Released in 1939 & directed by Victor Fleming (The Wizard of Oz), Gone with the Wind stars Clark Gable, Vivien Leigh, Leslie Howard, Olivia de Havilland (The Adventures of Robin Hood), & George Reeves (Adventures of Superman television series).

Gone with the Wind surpassed Snow White & the Seven Dwarfs as the highest-grossing film in history, a title which it retained until it too was surpassed by The Sound of Music in 1966. However, when adjusted for inflation, Gone with the Wind remains to this day the all-time box office champ.

Gone with the Wind was nominated for 13 Academy Awards, winning a record-breaking 10—a record not surpassed until 1960 by Ben-Hur, which won 11. Gone with the Wind won the Oscars for Best Picture, Best Director, Best Actress, Best Supporting Actress, Best Screenplay, Best Cinematography, Best Editing, & Best Art Direction in addition to two honorary awards.
